Generating PDF Files
If you want to generate PDF files, you need Adobe Acrobat Distiller and the correct settings. Depending on the Acrobat version, use this standard setting:
Acrobat version | Use this standard setting |
Acrobat 4.x | Press Optimized |
Acrobat 5.x | Press Optimized |
Acrobat 6.x | High Quality |
Acrobat 7.x | High Quality Print |
Acrobat 8.x | High Quality Print |
Acrobat 9.x | High Quality Print |
Use only the above mentioned joboption. If you use other programs or the export function of your programs, pay attention to the following settings:
- Do not downsample the resolution of color/greyscale pictures below 300 dpi, the resolution of bitmap pictures not below 1200 dpi.
- Use ZIP compression or JPEG compression with maximum quality.
- Color must not converted in RGB.
- Include all fonts.
Prior the production of PDF files, please note:
- Do not add unnecessary information to your document, e.g., crop marks or register marks.
- Include blank pages in your final document if they are supposed to be displayed/printed as such and delete any that should not be printed.
- It's necessary that color and greyscale pictures at least have a resolution of 300 dpi, bitmap pictures at least a resolution of 1200 dpi.
- Use the CMYK color space only
- In case pages are bled-off (images or printing area cropped), the output's format must be larger than the format of the final product (e.g., 216 x 303 mm instead of DIN A4 = 210 x 297 mm).
Color profiles
The different stages of a color workflow can be matched with the help of a color profile. The proof and the image to be printed should look exactly the same, no matter which output device has been used.
Two color management systems have proved to be successful in this regard:
- The open color management workflow. Data is generated in RGB or LAB. The generation of the color profile with separation (transformation into CMYK) happens just before the image arrives at the output device.
- The closed color management workflow. The data is separated and stored as CMYK immediately after the image has been scanned. The color profile is attached at the same time.
To avoid chromatic aberration, you should use the same ICC profiles we do. You can download the profiles from our homepage. We base our standards on the ISO-12647-2 litho-offset printing process standard.

Open data
Using different operating systems can cause a variety of data processing problems.
These problems can be avoided by providing us with comprehensive information about your "open data", including:
- Operating system used
- Name and version of your software
- Printer and version of its driver
- Fonts MUST be attached to the document
- Data format (please conform to naming conventions)
- Sample and sequence or dummy of your document
